CSU Summer Arts 2022

I had the wonderful privilege of coordinating an intense two-week saxophone summer course(06/27-07/10) for the California State University system- CSU Summer Arts. It was my first time running such course and even though it required lot of work, it really came out to be a fantastic course! The location this year took place in Fresno State campus which is located in the Central Vally of California, along with other programs such as Visual Art & Design, Dance, Media, and Theatre. Among many things that are so great about the Summer Arts, I must say students in the “The Art of Classical Saxophone” course...

  1. Immersed in the saxophone playing and music learning “intensely" for two weeks

  2. Received scholarships from $200 to full amount for tuition

  3. Earned 3-5units of Upper Division Elective college credits

  4. Worked with amazing internationally-renown guest artists

  5. Learned TONS about the saxophone and played A LOT

  6. Lots of bonding and had fun with fellow saxophone players- which was super awesome!

This course was originally going to be offered in Summer 2020, but of course with what had happened with us with pandemic, I was given a choice to offer this course online in Summer 2021 or in person in Summer 2022. I chose the later. I will be sharing how this course came about in three parts in my blog:

Part 1 - The Courses
Part 2 - Guest Artists & Performances
Part 3 - Students Experiences and Transformation
Part 4 - What to look forward
